Serena was awarded the High-Speed Train Phase I Project in September 2024. The project consists of the 30-year concession to design, develop, construct and finance the High-Speed Train that will connect Porto and Lisbon and it is currently one of the largest ongoing mobility projects in Europe.
This first phase of the project involves the development of the railway line between Porto and Aveiro, with a total length of 71 km. It includes key infrastructure such as a 9.5 km bridge over the Douro River, which will enable a direct high-speed connection between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The project also features 14.4 km of tunnels and viaducts, including a tunnel in Gaia designed to minimize urban and environmental impact in a densely populated area. Two new stations will be built in Porto and Gaia, serving as strategic hubs in the northern Portugal rail network.
